Export Control’s goal is to prevent the unauthorized transfer of controlled information and technology.
- Export Control’s focus is regulating what is shared, with whom and where.
- Export Control’s scope is transactions involving export-controlled technology, information, and other controlled items.
- Export Control’s restricted party screening tool – Visual Compliance – is used to identify restricted foreign and domestic parties. It helps prevent unlawful transactions but is different from as a research security review.
If a transaction involves any of the following, contact Export Control at export@arizona.edu for approval before engaging in the transaction:
- Defense articles, military equipment and services
- “Dual-use” items (civilian + potential military or strategic use)
- Materials, chemicals, biological agents, toxins
- Software and technology (including “technical data”)
- A sanctioned country, prohibited end-user, or illicit end-use
- A Visual Compliance match
For certain activities, both an Export Control determination and a Research Security determination may be required. Following guidance from EC and RSP ensures campus meets both sets of requirements. To request a research security review, please submit a request here: Request a Research Security Review.
